Chapter 6

Aimee was looking forward to the next week as Lauren had decided that she would take Aimee on of the easier mountain rock climbs. It required some basic skills in rock climbing and Lauren had made her practice at the adventure centre on the wall. When Aimee had suggested it she was reluctant as Aimee had never before done rock climbing nor even walked to the top of the mountains that did not require rock climbing. After much pleading from Aimee she had agreed to a smaller hike that had a basic rock climb and set about getting her to practice. It amused her to see Aimee sulking when she had first not agreed and she almost had not given in to teach her a lesson.

On Sunday they were both woken by the door bell ringing. Lauren went to answer and was almost bowled over by an enthusiastic greeting from her ex-partner Giselle. “Hullo, darling,” Giselle gushed. “I decided to come over on a whim. Last time I was here you did say to come anytime.”

That was almost ten years ago, not long after I settled here and you came for a visit, Lauren thought. But she kept silent knowing Giselle’s flamboyant ways and stepped aside for her to enter. “Hullo Giselle, it’s lovely to see you, but I wish you would have rang first.” Lauren started with. “Oh, do you have guests? Never mind I’m only staying for a few nights and I can bunk down in the lounge.” she said. “Please Lauren,” she added quietly, picking up on Lauren’s hesitation. “I moved to Spain last year and have just left my girlfriend. I knew you were only about two hours away and I just need a place to stay until my flight leaves. I’m flying from Malaga airport which is only twenty minutes away from here.” Lauren sighed. She did not want to turn Giselle away but Giselle had obviously been in Spain for a while and had not even bothered to contact her until now. It was only now that that she obviously needed somewhere to stay that she had turned up. “Okay” she said. “You can have the guest room, but Giselle, I have my partner with me.”

“You partner?” Giselle looked stricken, then a bit cunning. “So you did find someone,” she said, “and I thought you said I was the love of your life and you would not other with any other woman.”

“That was a long time ago Giselle. If you cannot behave you will not be staying here.” Lauren said. “Sorry,” Giselle said immediately. A soft foot fall sounded and Aimee appeared clad in Lauren’s dressing gown. “Aimee,” Lauren said immediately moving to her side. “This is Giselle, an old friend. She needs a place to stay for a few nights. Do you mind?”

Aimee looked a bit unsettled, but said politely, “Of course not,”

“Great,” Giselle said, “I know my way around, I’ll settle in.” She walked off down the passage to the amazement of Aimee who stared at Lauren.
